The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) plays a critical role in regulating capital markets and financial services in New Zealand and providing better outcomes for investors, consumers, professionals, businesses, and for the New Zealand economy.

Our Finance team, as part of the wider Operations function, provide the centralised corporate services that enable the FMA to undertake its regulatory work efficiently and on a financially sustainable basis. We currently have an exciting position available for an Assistant Accountant to join the team and provide accounting processing and support services.

In this role you'll be responsible for a range of duties including, but not limited to:

  • Month end processing (Accruals, Journals, Depreciation Balance sheet reconciliations, Monthly management reports)
  • Fixed Asset Register maintenance
  • Liaising with banks re placement of Funds on Term deposit
  • Project system management
  • Project reporting
  • Statement of Performance Expectations data collection
  • Statistical returns
  • Cost analysis
  • Quarterly/ six monthly reporting set up
  • GST returns
  • CE Expenses report
  • Members interest register
  • International travel reconciliation
  • Financial year end preparation including audit file preparation
  • Litigation Fund claim preparation
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable processing as required
  • All other ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Assisting Finance Manager and other members of the Finance team as required

Tertiary qualified, you'll have previous experience as an Assistant Accountant ideally gained in a commercial environment. Your numerical skills, attention to detail and accuracy will be second to none and you'll be comfortable maintaining performance when under pressure, and consistently delivering on time and to a good standard. Technically, you'll have high levels of computer literacy, including advanced Microsoft Excel.
