About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) as part of the Ministry manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of approximately 2,400 primary and secondary schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a book value of $14.6 billion. EIS is also responsible for managing school transport, the schools payroll, and the delivery of technology infrastructure in schools. EIS provides modern, safe and inspiring learning environments, supports effective use of information and communication technologies, and enables access to education through transport assistance.

About the role

This role is primarily responsible for providing EIS with capability for the performance of audit-like activity to ensure that expected procedural minimums are met. These compliance minimums may be derived from many sources but will generally be a consequence of legal imperative or Ministry policy. Additionally the role will advise EIS Management in pragmatic steps that can be undertaken to further increase business process maturity.

Your key priorities will include:

  • Compliance, Assurance & Risk: Undertake planned risk, operational and financial investigations of the EIS business, based on business risk assessment and compliance/assurance plans / Identify and report compliance irregularities to senior management / Ensure review recommendations are accurate, timely and acceptable, and will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the business / Perform a monthly follow up procedure for outstanding recommendations to ensure concerns are duly considered and implemented. Outstanding recommendations are to be reported to management and the Risk & Assurance Committee / Complete special investigations or risk reviews as requested by management within the timelines agreed / Answer any queries; provide advice and expertise to management and staff of the business as appropriate.
  • Financial: Working closely with the rest of the Risk & Assurance team to assist in the financial objectives and deliver within budget and ensuring that all funds, physical assets and other property including intellectual property of the organisation are appropriately safeguarded and administered.
  • Key Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.

About you

You will have a high level of understanding of assurance, compliance and risk management processes / practices and the proven ability to conduct investigations, use logical analysis and make appropriate recommendations.

You will also offer:

  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (Desirable).
  • Project management & reporting skills (Desirable).
  • Construction industry experience or exposure (Desirable).
