Job tasks and responsibilities

The National Business Manager is the key person responsible for the oversight and management of the organisation's financial activities. A core accountability is financial management reporting to the Chief Executive and the Board and to funding and sponsorship agencies.

The National Business Manager is also responsible for:

  1. Management of the financial activities of the organisation
  • Prepare agreed monthly financial reports for National Office and branches
  • Develop and maintain Autism New Zealand's management accounting systems and processes
  • Prepare financial records for year-end audit
  • Liaise with funding agencies
  • Work with the Chief Executive to prepare budgets for National Office and branches
  • Complete monthly reconciliation
  • Oversight of all finance work, including payroll.
  1. Administrative support for the Hubs and the Chief Executive
  • Oversee all National Office administrative support for the Hubs
  • Oversee the administration of Ensure the Chief Executive has all necessary administrative support
  • Oversee the provision of administrative support for the Chair and the Board.
  1. Other Activities
  • Work with the Chief Executive in maximizing commercial opportunities for Autism New Zealand, and manage Autism NZ's events
  • Assume overall responsibility for all business processes including HR
  • Have oversight of contracted in HR advice and assist the Chief Executive with the development of HR policies
  • Provide monthly reports on statistics, activities and issues
  • Prepare an annual individual work plan in line with the organisational strategic plan and the national annual operational plan
  • Ensure effective maintenance of manuals and resources relating to operational policies and guidelines
  • Oversight of the smooth running of all IT services
    • Manage the organisation's website and content in conjunction with the National Information and Administrative Support Coordinator
    • Have overall responsibility for all health and safety requirements
  • Have overall responsibility for all operational activities outside our core activities of Education and Outreach support, including Holiday Programmes for the Waikato, Canterbury and the West Coast areas
    • Develop and maintain a 'desk file' of the tasks involved in the National Business Manager role.

Skills and experience

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Accountancy and is a preferably Chartered Accountant
  • Experience in management accounting
  • Knowledge of MYOB
  • Knowledge of payroll systems
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets
  • Methodical and systems oriented
  • Competent in the suite of Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership and senior management
  • Effective organisational and prioritising skills
  • Excellent time-management, and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills – the ability to relate well to a wide range of people: staff, families, teachers, agencies, professionals, grant funders and suppliers
  • Able to handle information sensitively and confidentially
  • Preferably, knowledge of, and experience of working with, the Autism Spectrum and related conditions
  • Awareness of broad principles of ethics associated with the provision of services in a support agency role
  • Demonstrated cultural and socio-economic sensitivity and awareness of Treaty of Waitangi obligations.
