  • Attractive remuneration coupled with excellent work life balance
  • Commercially focused roles in fast paced diverse and challenging environments
  • Business partnering with large operational groups to set the direction and drive implementation of financial strategies

About the role

This is not a typical government finance role – we are looking for high achievers, with a commercial focus who can encourage innovation and fresh thinking.

The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment is a large complex 24/7 global organisation with 28 offices worldwide and over 3300 employees including 520 offshore.

As one of our principal management accountants you will work alongside the business to set the direction and drive the implementation of the business group’s financial strategy. You’ll also be responsible for ensuring alignment with the organisation wide strategic plan and stated outcomes.

Using your extensive financial expertise and working with the Finance Business Partner, you will provide authoritative financial advice and influence senior stakeholders as well as lead the financial management of the Ministry’s business groups.

You will achieve this by aligning with the business and providing accurate, high quality, multi-year strategic financial advice to influence the strategic and operational decision making process.

Remuneration will reflect the experience, demonstrated ability and drive of candidates.

Why should you join us?

We are already on a journey to become an exemplar finance function which other New Zealand organisations will aspire to.  In this role you will help guide our direction as we continue on that journey.

  • We promote a culture where staff are empowered to bring fresh perspectives to issues, to think outside the box and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • We offer significant opportunities for developing experience across a broad variety of areas.
  • We encourage excellence and proactively support development through on the job learning, training courses, and secondments to other teams
  • Our collaborative team encourages a positive, customer focussed, innovative and best in class attitude.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for:

  • A proactive self-starter, keen to seek out innovative solutions
  • Strong analytical, strategic and planning skills as well as being commercially savvy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and influencing skills and the ability to articulate complex messages clearly, simply and concisely
  • A strong team player with the ability to collaborate and contribute at senior leadership team level
  • Experience in leading successful change initiatives
  • A tertiary qualification in accounting supported by several years of experience
