About Oranga Tamariki

This role, and the team it sits within is moving into the new Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki (OT) in April 2017. The Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki is the new Ministry that supports vulnerable children and young people in New Zealand.  Oranga Tamariki works to advance the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes of children and young people.   In everything we do, the wellbeing and best-interests of children are paramount.  The voices of children and young people underpin the design and operation of our services. 

The team

The role of the Finance Group within OT is to ensure that OT is meeting all reporting obligations, providing a strategic view of funding and ensuring there is a long term plan for financial viability. In this role you will be working specifically with Oranga Tamariki's national office becoming a trusted business advisor supporting our Managers to make the best financial decisions possible.

The role

In this role you will be providing support to teams working on:

  • Month end processing
  • budgeting and forecasting
  • Production of timely and accurate reports
  • Variance analysis on spending against budget

The key to success in this role is to build strong relationships with budget managers, develop in depth knowledge of the business and be able to translate technical accounting knowledge into everyday language.

Skills and experience

In order to be successful in this role you will have a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably majoring in accounting for the public sector and you will be working towards your Chartered Accountancy qualification.  Excellent relationship management and communication skills are essential for this role and you will need to be client focussed with outstanding organisation and time management skills
