Independent Living Worker - night support
Hawke's Bay Hawke's Bay New Zealand
Part Time

Part time, permanent work

Hohepa Hawkes Bay is a therapeutic community based on the work of Rudolf Steiner, providing support for people with intellectual disabilities with the aim of enabling them to live as independently as possible; our mission is 'every life fully lived'.

The More Independent Living ("MIL") project is a service for people who aspire to independent living. We are recruiting for part time Independent Living Workers: this is a new position to provide night time support and supervision for MIL service users.

The role will be based in an office in one of the houses in Taradale; it will involve checking on other buildings at intervals during the night (vehicle provided.) The main aim of the position is to provide back up and reassurance to the people we support in the event of any emergency or concern. There will be a range of administrative, office-based tasks to complete during the shift.

To be successful in this position you must:

  • Hold a current full Drivers Licence
  • Be able to undertake training (including some training shifts) during the day
  • Be a person of integrity; responsible, trustworthy, self-motivated, able to work unsupervised and alone (emergency back-up is available)
  • Be able and willing to work alongside people to enable them to achieve their goals: this is NOT a 'care worker' position, it requires the ability to support and encourage, but not do things for people!
  • Have great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be organised, able to prioritise work, with good IT skills
  • Have a calm and supportive approach, good in an emergency
  • Be open to learn new ways of working and skills, and to develop yourself
  • Be able to work through the night

You will need to be available for at least 2 shifts (of between 8 and 10 hours) each week; overtime may be offered, and additional 'casual' work (night or daytime shifts) is possible, but this must be your main role and your priority.

No formal closing date: applicants who meet our criteria will be invited to visit the project and could be offered employment as soon as they are ready to work. If you think this is something you can do, please apply promptly!

As with all Hohepa jobs, we require an application form to be completed.

If you are interested in night work, do not have admin skills but could take on a role involving personal cares, housework, baking etc – please apply for a Wake Over Support Worker role. Some part time and casual positions are available. Contact us for more details.
