Production Engineer/NPI Engineer

Our client is looking for a mechanically focused NPI & Sustaining Engineer to join their engineering team based in South Auckland. You'll be part of a friendly, down-to-earth group of talented engineers and you will work very closely with the NPI Lead, test engineers, manufacturing engineers, supply chain team and Production Systems Engineers to ensure the smooth transition of new products into manufacture. You’ll also be key in managing sustaining engineering projects investigating and implementing design changes for mechanical components.

This position is crucial as you will be the impartial critical link between the design and manufacture teams and will ensure that products can be manufactured efficiently and to a high standard and quality. The role will suit a highly competent Production Engineer with a solid product development background who is technically very capable and totally passionate about design for manufacture. You are a confident, outgoing person with excellent interpersonal skills who can establish good relationships across the business and gather, evaluate and anticipate customer needs. You’re also experienced enough to predict and recognise risks and develop action plans to mitigate these. You’ll also establish standards for Design for Manufacture, lead the definition of manufacturing process requirements for NPD projects, create tools to support manufacturing goals for cycle times and data tracking and work with project teams from concept, prototype builds and into mass production.

To be considered for this position, you'll need the following:

  • BE in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics
  • At least 7 plus years commercial production engineering or product development (electronic products) experience within a manufacturing environment is required
  • A solid understanding and knowledge of manufacturing processes including assembly and testing
  • Experience and ability to create Bill of Materials and control documentation
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to influence others
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Results oriented and able to remove obstacles in order to meet cost, quality and time-lines
  • Team players able to be part of a multi-disciplinary design team
  • Solid written communication skills with the ability to implement process and assembly documentation
  • Ability and willingness to provide training to a wide range of staff
  • Creative, innovative and well organised
