Trident Systems is a seafood industry research provider committed to high quality fisheries research and ensuring that decision makers know "what the data say".

We are looking for a proactive Data Scientist who is:

  • passionate about data analysis, visualisation and modelling and – ideally – about fish and fisheries; and
  • interested in joining a small, but very effective team, in a permanent role within Trident Systems.

This position, based in our Wellington CBD office, will enable you to utilise and develop your skills in data analysis, modelling, programming, and communication, whilst providing you with a broader understanding of New Zealand fisheries management and its regulatory environment.

The post holder will have the opportunity to get involved in Trident's data collection and R&D programmes, and undertake project planning and management.

Key Skills / Educational Requirements:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification (preferably Postgraduate degree);

  • Statistical analysis skills, using the R software environment;

  • General research computing experience (programming, databases);

  • Good communication skills both oral and written – including report writing;

  • Ability to work individually and in a team.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop robust and appropriate analyses of fisheries data;

  • Communicating results to a range of stakeholders;

  • Developing and managing reporting databases and tools;

  • Promoting Health & Safety to ensure a safe working environment.
