Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

The National Operations team has overall responsibility for external service delivery to the New Zealand public in the context of reducing the incidence and consequence of fire, and the provision of a professional response to other emergencies. The team is responsible for the development of national policies and procedures to guide our service delivery, and for ensuring that operational and specialist staff have the appropriate tools, equipment and support necessary to perform at the highest levels

You will provide operational advice and play an important role liaising with Rural management, Region/District Managers and Project Teams that are working on significant rural projects, and to contribute to the development and maintenance of new operational policies, standard operational procedures and guidelines specific to Rural.

Your expertise will assist the organisation to move towards principle-based procedures and ensure Rural management receive the best advice and support in the development of rural policies and procedures. You will also participate in the manning and running the National Coordination Centre.

To be successful in this role you will have a related Tertiary qualification or significant experience in and understanding of the Rural environment, including the ability to interpret and translate technical documentation in operational requirements. You will have a strong delivery focus and have the proven ability to build effective relationships and work across all levels of the organisation to advise and influence others in the development and implementation of pragmatic solutions.

Understanding of public sector standards and project management methodology are also required.
