Smart Environmental is New Zealand's largest New Zealand owned Waste and Recycling company and one of New Zealand's largest Parks and Reserves Contractors. We are a successful, fast growing and dynamic company.

We are looking for a fulltime, experienced, 'no nonsense' assistant to join our team at our Support Office in Otahuhu. This role reports directly to the Company Accountant, and has a mix of accounts, payroll and customer services. The ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively as well as efficiently, is essential.

This role would likely suit a team player with a sense of humour has experience working with high volume queries, with response deadlines.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Key responsibilities are administration functions for the country including (but not limited to):

  • Payroll processing
  • Assistance and Backup to Payroll/Human Resources
  • Accounts Payable support
  • Assisting Company Accountant and 2IC
  • Servicing helpdesk for Auckland customer and council queries
  • Auckland contract claims and customer invoicing
  • Operational data processing, reconciliation and reporting

Skills and experience

Qualifications are not essential, but relevant experience is. To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Permanent NZ Residency
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in Payroll related roles
  • A minimum of 2 years recent experience in Accounts or Finance based roles
  • HR exp. is not necessary, as full training will be given
  • Administration and office experience in an operationally based organisation
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office, ERP systems)
  • Well-developed analytical and organisational skills supported by a systematic approach and a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
  • Excellent communication skills, both with customers and internal stakeholders
  • The flexibility to adapt to fluctuating workloads and sometimes varying duties
