2IC to the Financial Controller, Opportunity for an ambitious CA, Six month contract.

The role is a Senior Financial Accountant assisting the Financial Controller with a range of tasks. Initially a six month contract, there is plenty of scope for permanent opportunities within the group as well.

Job tasks and responsibilities

As the Senior Financial Accountant, you'll find this role very 'hands on'. Your responsibilities will be based predominately around preparation of monthly and yearly statutory financial accounts for up to 3 entities in New Zealand. You'll need to have excellent relationship and communications skills, as you'll spend considerable time liaising with business managers and other stakeholders providing them with relevant and accurate analysis and commentary on their financial and management accounts.

Duties include:

  • Effectively act as a 2IC to the Financial Controller for the group.
  • Providing assistance to management on the application and maintenance of internal accounting/financial systems by way of feasibility studies, systems evaluations and/or costing analysis.
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors to make sure all systems and internal controls are performing with the highest integrity.
  • Project management of a variety of system evaluation activities.
  • Undertake normal activities focused around various management accounting reports and provide analyses and commentary as required.
  • Play a pivotal role in the coordination and actioning of various budget processes and maintain effective accounting controls and systems ? both regionally and nationally.
  • Ensure the security of financial systems and the integrity of audit trials and preparation of longer-term management forecasts and plans.

Skills and experience

You will also be comfortable working relatively autonomously alongside the experienced FC and be able to make this role your own. In addition you will be available immediately or at short notice as the client is looking to appoint and get the successful candidate up to speed asap. Other requirements to be aware of include:

  • Ideally CA qualified
  • Experience working in a similar role within a complex business. You must be able to demonstrate that you are able to cope in a dynamic environment.
  • ERP experience.
  • 3+ years commercial experience with exposure to budgeting, forecasting and statutory compliance.
  • Advanced Excel skills with particular focus on using v-look-ups and pivot tables.
