This role sits within MIT's Finance and Business Services team, with a close working relationship with MIT's People & Culture team. The Payroll Analyst is essential to the effective, accurate and efficient delivery of payroll to 1500 employees.

We are seeking an individual with proven New Zealand payroll experience who is able to work well under pressure, remain calm and controlled whilst managing the demands of a busy work environment. You will possess the following skills:

  • Demonstrated payroll experience in a complex, unionised environment. Previous experience within the educational sector would be beneficial, but not essential
  • High level of attention to detail with a focused and logical approach to problem-solving
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to promptly and clearly communicate with MIT employees as well as relevant external parties, e.g. Inland Revenue, ACC
  • Extensive knowledge of New Zealand payroll, tax and employment related legislation
  • The ability to positively and pro-actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the Payroll/HRIS system, processes and practices
  • Previous exposure to payroll tasks associated with New Zealand collective employment agreements essential
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work to meet strict deadlines
  • Solid numeracy and analytical skills, confident working with large volumes of data and proficient in preparing all necessary payroll reconciliations
  • Exposure to Financial, Payroll and Human Resource practices required
  • Exceptional technical skills, including proficient in MS Office, databases and data analysis, including macros, pivot tables etc.
  • Previous experience with AMS Leader would be advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills

The ideal candidate will have current work experience of end-to-end payroll processing, payroll reporting and ad hoc payroll projects. They will demonstrate a customer service approach to their work while ensuring business processes and policies are adhered to.
