Position: Accounts & Payroll Administrator

Reporting to:Business & Finance Director


The Auckland Arts Festival is Auckland's premier festival of New Zealand and international arts. Now presented annually, the globally recognised event celebrates people and culture, and showcases the cultural diversity and vibrant energy of New Zealand's largest city.

Since the inaugural event in 2003, the Auckland Arts Festival has welcomed more than 1.7 million attendees. In March 2018 (8 ? 25), the next annual Auckland Arts Festival will present a dazzling array of events by some of the country's and world's most innovative artists and performers.


The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Business & Finance Director to manage a small but busy accounts department, maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounts and payroll.


The position is permanent and full time, ideally starting  early February.


Normal hours of work will be 40 hours per week, between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.? Extra hours will be required prior to and during the Auckland Arts Festival, including weekends.

Required skills and experience

  1. Experience using MYOB AccountRight Premier and MYOB Payroll software (essential)
  2. Accounting qualification preferred
  3. High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  4. Experience in a medium to large office environment
  5. Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  6. Experience with online banking systems
  7. Honesty and reliability
  8. Fluent English & good communication skills
  9. Ability to manage conflicting priorities and cope with a constantly changing environment
  10. Also useful: a genuine interest in the arts, experience with IT networks, and a sense of humour.

  1. Maintain accurate and up to date financial information using MYOB AccountRight Premier v19
  2. Ensure financial records are complete and appropriately filed
  3. Ensure timely and accurate payment of Accounts Payable in various currencies, using online banking and preparing payment documentation for signatories to approve
  4. Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts at the end of each month
  5. Process Accounts Receivable
  6. Prepare bank deposits
  7. Prepare PAYE returns and payments and end of month Payroll reconciliations
  8. Prepare GST returns (two-monthly)
  9. Manage, in conjunction with relevant staff, the cash per diems for visiting artists
  10. Prepare cash flow projections and manage term deposits
  11. Provide financial reports and budget advice to Festival staff as required
  12. Prepare annual Financial Statements for the Trust in conjunction with auditor requirements

Human Resources

  1. Prepare the various payrolls using MYOB Payroll
  2. Maintain personnel records including leave forms, timesheets, Kiwisaver and tax forms
  3. Prepare employment agreements as required


  1. Keep administrative records accurately filed
  2. Train other staff to create Purchase Orders in MYOB as required
  3. Assist other staff with spreadsheets and systems as required
  4. Assist with IT administration and troubleshooting if required
  5. General administrative tasks as required
  6. Back up reception staff by answering the phone at times, as required
  7. Any other duties as requested from time to time by the Business & Finance Director or Chief Executive.


The Auckland Arts Festival office is located on level 5, 44-52 Wellesley Street West, Auckland Central.
