Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience. Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the firefighters who serve them with integrity and respect, now and in the future.

The Payroll team sits within the People Safety and Support team and is responsible for:

Ensuring accurate and timely payroll services and advice is provided, as well as meeting all compliance with individual and collective employment agreements and relevant legislation. The Senior Payroll Coordinator position is also responsible for identifying areas where processes can be improved and participates in testing upgrades of the Payroll system. This position also has the responsibility to upskill and train other team members as well as being the 2IC for the Payroll Manager.

The ideal applicant:

The ideal candidate we are seeking will have a strong mix of the following experiences:

  • A history of achievement in delivery of high quality payroll services preferably in a complex payroll environment
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of New Zealand employment and payroll related legislation
  • Proven ability to accurately interpret terms and conditions in employment agreements and policies
  • Knowledge of and experience of payroll systems
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Sound knowledge of accounting systems and practices
  • A self-starter who works well as part of a team to provide a high quality service
  • Keen attention to detail with a systematic and analytical approach
  • Excellent customer service ethos
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Handles confidential information with absolute discretion

The salary range for this role is $65,736 to $77,337
