Our Firm

Michael Buck IPis a Brisbane based, privately owned patent attorney firm with a team of experienced and ambitious attorneys. We are now the third largest filer of provisional and PCT applications in Queensland and all our attorneys are at capacity. We are looking for enthusiastic New Zealand Patent Attorneys who are interested in moving over to Brisbane, Australia and join one of Australia's fastest growing patent attorney firms.

Your Role

As a critically important member of our team of attorneys, you'll enjoy meeting with local clients, and helping them to fully capture the value of their intellectual property. Day to day you'll draft patent specifications, prepare examination responses for the major jurisdictions and provide advice regarding filing strategies, infringement and validity of patents. You'll be encouraged to exchange ideas and to try new approaches to firm building.

Who You Are:

A confident, self-motivated attorney withentrepreneurial flair who enjoys client contact, who can put themselves in the client's shoes, who can anticipate the client's needs and can build relationships will find a team of like-minded colleagues waiting for them.


have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience [up to senior level] as a registered Australian/NZ patent attorney or patent and trademark attorney [or are an overseas qualified patent attorney currently nearing qualification in Australia/NZ];

have a degree or higher qualification in ENGINEERING [electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, telecommunications and/or computer engineering] or SCIENCE [applied mathematics, physics, materials]

have hands-on experience in prosecuting/drafting mechanical patents [essential] and some opposition experience [preferable];

have strong technical, analytical + communication/people skills + strong commercial acumen;

are serious about carving out a LONG-TERM successful career with a vibrant successful firm that has the resources to support and help you to reach your full potential.

* trade mark experience will be valued but is not essential for this role.
