Australian and New Zealand qualified lawyers! This is a rare opportunity for a mid-senior level commercial IP/IT lawyer to join a global law firm in Hong Kong.

Our client

Our client is one of the worlds leading international law firms. Their office in Hong Kong has gone from strength to strength. Due to growth, the office is expanding with a number of key strategic hires. Their IP/IT team sits within their wider corporate remit and is headed by a talented and highly respected commercial IP/IT Partner. Their core clients are in consumer goods/retail, healthcare, automotive and TMT. They are experts in complex IP, IT and patent matters across the Asia Pacific region.

The role

You will work closely with the Head of the IP/IT Team. The work involves a mixture of commercial, IP/IT and contentious IP and patent matters. It is very broad and will allow an ambitious lawyer to gain experience in established economies like China and emerging markets.

You will be involved in:

  • Advice in relation to IP issues arising from M&A or JV transactions
  • Advising on IP issues in capital markets transactions
  • Advising on R&D collaborations
  • Drafting and negotiating licensing and distribution/supply arrangements
  • Advising on data privacy, cyber security, encryption, advertising, labelling and consumer protection laws and regulations
  • IP due diligence
  • General commercial work as it relates to IT/IP
  • Some patent and trademarks litigation

About You

  • Admitted as a Solicitor in Australia or New Zealand and hold a current practising certificate
  • 4-8 years experience within a leading Australian or New Zealand law firms corporate IP/IT team.
  • Strong academics (preference for First or Second Class Honours)
  • excellent analytical, communication and research skills
  • ability to deliver prompt and commercially astute advice
  • ability to commit to 2 years in a foreign jurisdiction
  • Preference to commence in early 2018
