Midwifery Kaiako/Lecturer
West Coast West Coast New Zealand
Otago Polytechnic

School of Midwifery

0.4 0.6 FTE negotiable,

Fixed Term Feb-Dec 2018

This position is to support Wellington students studying the Bachelor of Midwifery.

Our Bachelor of Midwifery programme enables students to undertake the majority of their study in their own area through a blended delivery model of education. Students are grouped into satellites where we employ a local midwife as a Kaiako (teacher) with responsibility for student support, teaching, assessment, liaison with local midwives and maternity services and as a member of the wider midwifery teaching team. This role is for a kaiako to support student learning and practice for students in the Wellington region. There is also an expectation of attendance and some teaching during the intensive block courses which are delivered in Paraparaumu and some staff meetings via video conferencing. Tutorials, intensives and meetings are timetabled; other work can be managed flexibly.

We invite applications from practising midwives with extensive midwifery practice experience, including LMC experience, who are interested in midwifery education and actively involved in the wider midwifery profession in New Zealand and who hold a current midwifery Annual Practising Certificate. A postgraduate qualification would be an advantage as would computer literacy and familiarity/experience with E-learning. This position will suit midwives seeking part-time work to combine with part-time practice.
