Tauranga Women's Refuge is a specialist Domestic violence crisis servicethat has been supporting women and children affected by domestic violence (physical, emotional and psychological) since 1980.

This role is funded by Ministry of Justice and Social Development and we are seeking an exceptional child centered personto supportchild witnesses of domestic violence who are residing in the community or our safe house residence.

Position Purpose:

  • To deliver a ten session Ministry of Justice approved individual and sibling group program to children and young peoples aged 5 to 17 years who have witnessed Domestic violence.
  • To deliver a safety and support program to support children and young peoples to participate and flourish in their communitiesin violence free, safe, families and whanau.

Hours:

20 hours per week

Term:

Fixed term contract mid January 2018 to 30 June 2018

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required skills and experience for position include:

  • Relevant domestic violence, child protection, social work, psychology, counseling, education qualification, training or experience
  • Full Drivers License
  • Experience working with children and young peoples affected by domestic violence
  • Experience of child developmental stages and milestones
  • Power and control analysis of domestic violence
  • Experience of cross-cultural communication, cultural prohibitions, and customs of the client group
  • Experience of family systems and the way that families interact
  • Experience of the characteristics of bonding and attachment between children, caregivers and their respective family groups
  • Experience of safety planning and management of problematic behaviors
  • Experience engaging effectively with children and young people's using developmentally appropriate interventions
  • Analysis of domestic violence and impacts on women and their children
  • Commitment to working with women and their children experiencing domestic violence in crisis situations
  • Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and principles
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, time management, record-keeping and report writing
