Job purpose:

The Youth Coordinator is responsible for administering and delivering peace and disarmament activities, events, resources and services for youth, teachers and the general public (specifically nuclear disarmament at the present time). The purpose is to build awareness among New Zealanders on the importance of disarmament and peace, and to foster pride in New Zealand's nuclear-free legislation among young New Zealanders.

Key Programmes / Areasof Responsibility:

  • Organising Youth Peace Week
  • Presentations to schools and youth groups
  • Creating (NCEA) Resources for teachers and holding cluster meetings for teachers to promote resources and encourage disarmament education
  • Digital outreach and communications regarding programmes and disarmament issues through website and social media
  • Youth networking events
  • Public events - such as public lectures
  • Managing International Internship Programme


  • Essential: Has background or experience and great interest in disarmament and peace issues and education.Desirable:has experience in nuclear disarmament.
  • Has tertiary level degree in International Relations, Political Science, Law, Conflict Resolution or related field. Ideally at the post-graduate level.
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation would be an advantage, especially funding applications and accountability reports.
  • Sound research skills, ability to create presentations on complex topics in easily understandable ways for young people
  • Digitally savvy, able to use google software such as google docs, drive etc., as well as social media platforms. Wordpress skills an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Public speaking ability and able to deliver presentations to community groups, schools and youth groups
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a respectful team.
  • Ability to supervise others and perform a degree of Human Resources Management. Ability to oversee a variety of projects as carried out by interns.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Full Driver's License would be an advantage.

Work Hours:

  • 20 hours per week, 1 year contract (renewable).
  • $22.50 - $25.00 per hour depending on experience
