The opportunity

Novasteel is a medium sized national design and build company, specializing in industrial, commercial, and large scale specialist agribusiness projects. The company has an exceptionally full book for the next few years nationally, with many confirmed projects for several of New Zealand's largest food producers. Their reputation precedes them, and as a result they require an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take charge of the commercial aspects of the business.

About the role

Working alongside the company management and a team of competent Project Managers, Site Managers and Builders located in key regions, you will be responsible for the commercial setup, pricing and contract administration for projects with values ranging from $2m to $30m. Projects are large in scale, building forms are generally modular and site production levels are high with strict program management requirements. The specialist nature of the projects involves integrating world leading technologies from multinational equipment suppliers into the buildings, keeping them diverse and interesting. Our client runs a lean, effective national management team that is well respected in their marketplace and their vision is to build a business of truly international quality.

Duties

Work will be varied covering all aspects for the commercial management in a specialist design and build / negotiated contracts office:

Taking overall responsibility for the contractual, commercial and financial elements of project delivery nationally

Construction contract setup and ongoing administration supporting Project Managers;

Control monthly progress claims and project financial reporting to the Management Team

Project cost planning and estimating

Procurement

Implementing best practices in cost management and system development

Ensure highest levels of client service

Continually enhance the reputation of the company.

Skills & Experience

Minimum 10 years experience in the NZ construction industry;

Degree or Diploma qualifications in Construction Quantity Surveying

Experience in start to finish project management on commercial construction projects

Strong written and verbal communication, ability to communicate facts in a clear and convincing manner;

Well developed time management skills;

Excellent skill level with Excel and Microsoft Project packages, and cost management software

Critical thinking, suggesting solutions to problems and identifying more effective ways of undertaking tasks;

Flexibility, accountability, team building and professionalism;

The ability to generate top quality presentation in documentation is important;

Ability to work autonomously and be self-driven.

As the buildings are more industrial in nature, applicants should show expertise in concrete construction, steel structural systems, and possibly an interest in computer controlled ventilation and equipment technologies. Salary and conditions including company vehicle will meet the market and be negotiated based on relevant experience.
